Get set Green Commonwealth Youth Games, Pune 2008 celebrates “100 Days to Go”
To commemorate “100 Days to Go” for the Commonwealth Youth Games, Pune 2008, The Organizing Committee in association with the PMC organised a Tree Plantation drive and launch of the “Model Road” in Pune city.

The plantation drive started at 9:00 a.m. at the Biodiversity Park in Pashan where 100 saplings were planted, to mark “100 Days to go” .The drive was undertaken as part of CYG’s Green Pune initiative with an aim to conserve nature and restore the natural Eco-System around Pashan and Katraj lake. The PMC and CYG team is looking forward to active community participation and is confident that this initiative will help in further raising public awareness.

Mr. Michael Fennel, President Commonwealth Games Federation, Mr. Mike Hooper, CEO Commonwealth Games Federation and Mr. Suresh Kalmadi, MP and Chairman Commonwealth Youth Games, Pune 08 along with Mr. Pravinsinh Pardeshi, PMC Commissioner inaugurated the drive by planting the first few saplings.

Following the Tree Plantation Drive, the dignitaries arrived at the NCC circle near Symbiosis College, to inaugurate Senapati Bapat Road as “The model road”. This road will replicate the look and feel that the city roads will carry during the games with footpaths for pedestrians, beautified road dividers with plants and CYG Pune 2008 flags to welcome the athletes.

This landmark day will end with a cultural evening planned for the Volunteers. The event will also encompass the launch of the CYG Theme Song written by Mr. Javed Akhtar and sung by Mr. Shankar Mahadevan along with the unveiling of CYG Pune 2008 Merchandise and Uniforms.
