India’s Deepika Patel wins gold In 10m air pistol
India’s dominance in shooting range continued today with Deepika Patel clinching Gold medal in 10m Air Pistol at 3rd Commonwealth Youth Games 2008 in Pune. In a closely fought final, Deepika scored 470.2 points while Chong Eunice Mei Kay of Singapore won Silver (464.3 points) and Binti Ismail Wahidah of Malaysia got Bronze (464.2 points).
At the end of qualified round, Deepika Patel was trailing by 1 point to Binti Ismail but fired six 10’s in the final round to surge ahead of the competitors. She scored 10.1, 10.1, 10.1, 8.4, 10.3, 9.7, 8.4, 10.4, 10.2 and 8.5 to emerge victorious. While she claimed Gold, battle was on for 2nd and 3rd position. Chong Kay of Singapore, who had 369 points from qualifying round, shot four 10’s in the final round. Her last shot of 10.9 made all the difference to get her Silver. The Malaysian girl had to pay for some poor firing in the final round to contend for Bronze.
